Virginia Beach has over  29 miles of coastline to offer visitors. The area has many excellent beaches and 3 miles of boardwalk. The beach is a popular destination for surf swimming, aquaplaning, water skiing and boating along the inland waterways. The area is also popular for fishing and its famous seafood.  The population of the city is estimated at 485,000 people. Much of the local population is retirees and military.
