Off The Beaten Path
The online source of what to see in Fredericksburg

Every few months, SimplyFredericksburg will take you on a journey to places that most people visiting (and many residing in) Fredericksburg don't get to see. These are places that are "Off The Beaten Path". There are many great sites to see in the area that are just not highly advertised or publicized. So sit back and take a short trip "Off the beaten path". We will, (in most cases), provide you with photos and a brief description of each location. As always, we encourage you and others to see these sites in person. We do not try to replace an actual visit.

Canal Path
Rappahannock Canal

Volume #5
Quiet walk along the old canal tow path.
The path heading west from Jefferson Davis Hwy.Novembers ‘Off the Beaten Path’ came about from the desire to take a relaxing stroll.  And what a better time of year than Fall to do so? The old canal tow path is perfect for a leisurely stroll (or quick jog).  The two plus mile path starts at the parking area on Fall Hill Ave. near Normandy Ave.  It runs along the old Rappahannock canal and passes by Mary Washington Hospital / Snowden Office Park.  Continuing along the path, it crosses under Jefferson Davis Highway and continues on by the Old Fredericksburg water plant.
If you wish to venture from the path there is the Mary Washington Monument or Kenmore Plantation, (both are near the water plant) within a short walking distance.  For kids there is Kenmore Park.
The path looking east towards Jefferson Davis Hwy.

If you're into plants and nature there are literally hundreds of different species of plants and vegetation growing along the path.  In the Fall, the leaves are breathtaking.  The Spring and Summer months bring peach blossoms and roses.
Not only was the walk relaxing but it helped to tire out the kids.  Enjoy!!
A quiet tree lined section of the path near Washington St.
How to Get There: You can catch the path area at the parking lot on Fall Hill Ave., Kenmore Park area or near where the path crosses under Jefferson Davis Highway.

Pets are allowed but must be on a leash.  Also keep in mind that the path passes near several quiet communities so respect others.
