This was the final home of our first presidents mother, which was purchased by George himself so that she would be closer to his sister (Kenmore).  Here you will learn what a strong woman she was and be prepared to be regaled with stories about the up bringing of George and later of the important people she entertained on behalf of her son.  You’ll also find out why she became a recluse shortly after moving into her new home.

Kids
Listen closely to the tales of the docents (the ladies who will show you around as they tell you the history of the house you’re visiting).  They will tell you some really interesting things about the mother of our first president if your listening ears are turned up.

  1. Look for Mary Washington’s best looking glass (mirror) and let us know what room you find it in.
  1. How did proper young men and women dress and act?
